UNI Takes Down Tulsa, 75-59

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team took down the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sunday afternoon, posting a 75-59 victory. UNI is 5-5 overall this season.
Jen Keitel led the Panthers with a season-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the field and 2-for-2 from the three while adding nine rebounds. Amber Sorenson chipped in 17 points, going 3-for-4 from the arc with Madison Weekly rounding out UNI's double-digit scorers with 12 points and two assists.
The Panthers took a 10-2 lead heading into the media timeout in the first quarter, holding Tulsa to just one field goal in the first four minutes of the game. UNI found a scoring drought of their own, allowing the Golden Hurricane to make it a four-point game before Keitel scored a turnaround jumper with 3:00 to make it 12-6.
UNI took an 11-point lead to begin the second quarter after ending the first leading 19-11. Weekly hit a deep three-pointer to start, but Tulsa put up a 6-0 run to make it a five-point game with 7:26 left to play in the second quarter.
UNI countered with a run of their own after Sorenson scored five straight points to give the Panthers a 10-point advantage with 6:34 on the clock. The Panthers struggled from the field late in the quarter, shooting 2-for-10 before Keitel hit her fourth trey of the season to give UNI a 36-24 lead heading into halftime.
Despite leading 41-26 to start the third quarter, Tulsa cut it to a one-point game after a 13-0 run made it 41-40 with 5:40 on the clock. The Davison sisters answered, scoring a combined nine points that contributed to an 11-2 run, giving them a 50-42 lead with 3:01 remaining in the quarter.
After leading Tulsa 58-46 to end the third quarter, UNI kicked off the fourth on a 7-0 run to make it 65-48 capped off by Sorenson's third trey of the day at the 7:48 mark. The Panthers held Tulsa to just four field goals in the fourth quarter while forcing four turnovers, keeping the Golden Hurricane at bay and picking up the 75-59 win.
UNI will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 22 when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on the Creighton Bluejays. The game is set to tip off at 6 p.m. CT.

- Most non-conference wins since 2012-13, best winning percentage in non-conference since 2011-12.
- Prior to the game against Tulsa, UNI had held all nine of its opponents to season-lows in points. The lowest points scored against the Panthers this season was 39 points by Rockhurst University.
- Jen Keitel drained a three-pointer to end the second quarter and a three to put an end to the third quarter, her second game this season with two made treys. She finished the game with a season-high 21 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the field, adding nine boards.
